It's All About the Kids!

WHAT IS HPS "Parent"/SCHOOL COUNCIL?

 

Children do better in school when their parents & guardians play an active role in their education. Each year, a School Council is formed by election at your child’s school.  A school council is a collective of parents, teachers, principals, staff, and community representatives that supports and enhances student learning.   A school council works to promote the well-being and effectiveness of the entire school community with the goal of enhancing student learning.  We follow the principals of the Ministry of Education http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/general/elemsec/council/guide.html

At HPS, the council meets 1x/month and we get a report from our Principal and plan and discuss any upcoming functions or spending needs.  HPS has a Subcommittee for larger fundraisers - like the new ECO-Fest, which we would also welcome new members to join.

 

Who can be a member of the School Council?

Parents & Guardians of students in the school, everyone is welcome, and the principal, at least one teacher, one other staff member, and potentially community representative, and perhaps the Student council members/Student leadership can be members of the "School Council"

How can I become a member of my School Council?

Simply, attend a meeting! Currently, this maybe virtual or hybrid (in person & online).Contact the school to find out when the next meeting will be.

HPS Parent School Council Activities in a typical year:

 

• Welcome Back BBQ (Sept )

• Monthly Homemade Hot Lunches – (these funds will be directed to classroom trips)

• Presentation - Parent Nights

• Annual “By Donation” Pasta Dinner

• HPS ECO Fest 

 

HPS School Council Past & Present Projects we have Funded:

 

• Committed money to the new Accessible Playground

• New Storage Shed Outside for Equipment

• Brought in a Keynote on Social Media & Internet Safety

• Science North Fun Night

• Badminton Goggles

• New Books for Kindergarten

• PD Day Appreciation Lunches/Snacks for Staff
